Right now I'm currently reading Chanda's Secrets by Allan Stratton. The book takes place in Africa and it is about a girl named Chanda who has to go through hard times because people she knows are dying due to  HIV/AIDS. At the beginning of the story Chanda is  in a funeral parlor trying to pick out a casket for her little one and a half year old sister that had died over night. Chanda is the only family member who is at the funeral parlor because her mother is just so devastated she does not want to go, instead of going she just wants to hold her baby girl.Chanda's step father is working but she says that he is actually getting drunk at the bar, so Chanda is left to pick out the casket by herself. "I sign the contract and  go outside. Biking into the morning rush hour, I recite the Alphabet to make my mind go blank."
I find that Chanda is a girl with many problems in her life, her dad and two brothers have died, she lived with a man that tried to rape her and now her baby sister has died. I chose this quote from the book because I think that Chanda is constantly trying through out the book to get her problems out of her head by thinking of something else

The video that I have chosen is a song by My Chemical Romance and it is called Cancer. I believe that this song relates to my main character because she has lost many people in her life and I believe that this song can relate to two illness's- aids and cancer. I think that this song relates to aids because once you have aids you know you'ure going to die. In this song the singer knows that at he is going to die, and he is telling someone what he wants when he dies and that the hardest part about this is leaving them.

I have just finished The Blue Helmet By William Bell and the book was not too bad of a book. In the last chapter of the book Lee gives the house, that he has been given to by Cutter, gives it to his Dad. Lee also gave all the money that Cutter gave to Lee to his Dad as well, that way his Dad can quit his second job and he can move out of his apartment in Hamilton. "At the beginning of the summer I had gone to Lakshmi and asked her to transfer the house to my father's name. When all the paper work had been done, I had mailed it to him with a note saying, "Now you have to move to New Toronto."

This part of the book reminded me of a book that I have read in the past that I really enjoyed. The book is called Hamish X and the Cheese Pirates by Sean Cullen. In this book a boy named Hamish X is dropped off at an orphanage that is run by a man named Viggo. This orphanage makes the children make cheese, later on in the book the orphanage is taken over by cheese pirates and they take all the children, cheese and Viggo. The only people that are not captured are Hamish X and his friends, at the end Viggo gets killed by the cheese pirates and the orphanage is taken over by staff employees who the orphans look up to and love. The similarities between the two books is that they both take over a place that helps make someone's life a lot better.

Right now I am reading the novel The Blue Helmet by William Bell. The story so far is that a kid named Lee has got in trouble with the police one to many times, his Dad is tired of his behaviour so he sends Lee to live with his Aunt Reena in Toronto. Lee's Aunt runs a cafe, Lee does the delivery service for the cafe. While he is doing the delivery he comes across very strange characters, he meets a man named Abe Krantz who has many computers that tracks the weather and he listens to the cop radio. The  strangest character that Lee has come across is Bruce Cutter, Cutter has big locked doors and is very paranoid and thinks the government is after him. Lee creates a bond between him and Cutter and one day Lee comes to visit Cutter and he is acting very strange, Lee decides to leave and let Cutter rest. Later on that night Lee gets a call from Abe saying that he should go to Cutters house, when Lee arrives at Cutters house the police are there. Lee demands to speak to the cop who was in charge, Lee and the cop who was in charge talk and he says that Cutter has committed suicide. A couple days later Lee gets a call from Cutter's lawyer saying to come to her office. When Lee arrives at the office Cutter's Lawyer says that Cutter left something for Lee in Cutter's will. It says in Cutter's will that Lee gets Cutter's house and everything that is in it.

Right now what is happening in the book Lee has cleaned out the house and has made changes for  himself. While cleaning out the house Lee finds a room that was painted all black and on the walls there were sayings such as "Mootwa shall inherit the earth". Lee decided to look around the room and see what was there, he came across a file cabinet and opened it up. In the Cabinet was a light blue helmet, a wood handled knife and an old shoe that was covered on one side with blood. On the day that Cutter died he had said that "I was a peacekeeper once" the blue helmet had been worn by Representatives of the UN. Lee came across a diary of Cutters, Cutter had been part of the the UN and in the diary it talks about how Cutter went to Siberia when there was a war going on over there. I have not finished reading the chapter with the diary entries I still have couple pages left. This book so far has been enjoyable to me, the author's writing style is a little bit different from what I have read in the past. It is hard to make a prediction of what is going to happen next because it moves very slowly and focuses on one thing at a time.
