I am currently reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding. The story of Lord of the Flies is when many young boys are stranded on an island after a crash. The boys start to develop a society of their own, so some boys hunt, some help make shelter and then there is one boy who is the leader. The leaders name is Ralph, he was voted in by the rest of the boys because he had good leader ship skills. The hunters are a group of boys that are a Choir, and their leader is named  Jack. Jack seems to be very controlling and wants to be the leader instead of Ralph. Finally there is a character named Piggy and he and Ralph were the first ones that were introduced to the story, and Piggy is a very foolish boy that is described as fat. He looks up to Ralph and assists him as well.

These boys all have an ordinary world that seems to somewhere in Great Britain because they all speak with a British accent. I'm not too sure where they all come from because no one has described about their ordinary world except for two characters Ralph and Piggy. Piggy sounds like that his parents have died and he lives with his Aunt, that is all that is said Piggy's home life that he lives with his Aunt. Ralph on the other hand had a dream about his home life, and it sounds like Ralph lives on a farm or with a rich family because the narrator describes that in his dream he is feeding horses and someone telling him to come for tea.

Old English Farm - Witherslack, Cumbria

"Ralph was dreaming. He had fallen asleep after what seemed hours of tossing and turning nosily among the dry leaves. Even the sounds of nightmare from the other shelters no longer reached him, for he was back where he came from, feeding the ponies with sugar over the garden wall. Then someone was shaking his arm, telling him that it was time for tea."

From what the narrator just described I think that Ralph comes from a good Family with lots of money and they live on the country side. I'm guessing that Ralph was going on a trip with his parents when they crashed and he was separated from his Parents. That is why I think Ralph left his ordinary world, so he could go on a trip with his parents, but something tragic had to happen now he is left on an island with boys he's never met before trying to survive.

Is the Star Crossed Lovers an act? Does Peeta really love Katniss? Does Katniss love Peeta back? Before the games started Peeta said while being interviewed he had a crush on Katniss, and when Peeta said that it got them a lot of sponsors for the games. Katniss' and Peeta's mentor for the games said to go with it so they can get lots of sponsors. Currently in the book Katniss has found Peeta and they are starting to act as if they love each other. I believe that Peeta really does love Katniss because he remembered the first day of school when they were five, when he feel in love with her. Although i don't think that Katniss loves Peeta because she keeps reminding herself that it is all just an act and she can her in head her mentor saying to keep it up while she kisses Peeta. Personally I don't want Katniss to love Peeta because he so untrustworthy and he is just wrong for her, even when I read the parts where they kiss it feels awkward and out of the ordinary because you know it's all just an act.

If you are interested this is the trailer for the movie of The Hunger Games that comes out in March.

Post 6 Hero

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ab/Hunger_games.jpg/200px-Hunger_games.jpghttp

I am currently reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and I believe that the main character Katniss is the hero. I believe that Katniss is the hero of this book because she is family oriented, she endures hardship and separation and possible she self-sacrifices herself. In this story North America is split up into  twelve Districts that are run by a place called the Capitol, and every year the Capitol holds an event called The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are a type of games where a boy and a girl between the ages 12 and 18 are selected to go into an arena and fight to the death. When they pick the people to compete in the Hunger Games Katniss' little sister is picked to compete, but Katniss volunteers herself to compete instead of her little sister.Katniss is family oriented because she volunteers herself to compete instead of her sister because Katniss cares for her little sister and her sister wouldn't stand a chance against the other competitors.Katniss endures hardship and separation because she volunteers for the Hunger Games and there is a possibility that she will die in the arena and never see any of her family or friends ever again the last time that she see's her family and friends is when she is about to board the train to go to the Capitol. It may also be the last time her family see's her in person. There is a possibility that Katniss self sacrifice's herself because she volunteers to compete instead of her sister she is almost self sacrificing herself. She is going into the arena just so she can fight to stay alive and there is a possibility that she will die. Since Katniss volunteers for the games she is almost self sacrificing herself she has to fight to stay alive. " I don't need to shove through the crowd. The other kids make way immediately allowing me a straight path to the stage. I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. 'I volunteer!' I gasp. 'I volunteer as tribute!'"

I am sorry I don't have the required information I just can't seem to figure it out.

I choose this picture because shows that a girl is protecting someone she cares about. The girl in the center reminds me of Katniss because she is protecting her little sister and Katniss is going to compete in the Hunger Games instead of her sister.

I am currently reading Chanda's Secrets by Allan Stratton and I am on the twelfth chapter out of forty three chapters. The character that I have chosen is the main character of the book and her name is Chanda, and I think that Chanda is the hero in the book. I think that Chanda is the hero because she is a good friend, she sacrifices her social life to be with her family and she endures separation. Firstly, Chanda is a good friend to her best friend Esther. Esther's parents have died of AIDS and Chanda helps Esther through her hard times. Especially when Chanda's neighbor Mrs.Tafa gossips about Esther, Mrs.Tafa is a major gossip lady that has to make her opinion on everything. Whenever Mrs.Tafa says something like Esther shouldn't make the bread because she will spread her parents sickness in the bread. When ever Mrs.Tafa talks about Esther behind her back or even in front of her Chanda always try to get Esther away from and comforts her. Secondly Chanda gives up her social life so she can help her mom at home. Chanda doesn't have a lot of friends Esther is one of the only friend that she has. At home Chanda is like a second mother to her little bother and sister she takes care of them, bosses them around sometimes and comforts them when there sad or upset. In this particular part of the book Chanda has to do a lot of things for her mother because the baby in the family has just died. So Chanda has to cook the food, call relatives to let them know what has happened and even pick out a casket for her baby sister. Finally Chanda has to endure separation because of how bad the health care is in Africa. Chanda has been separated by many people in her life such as her father and two brothers who were killed in a mining accident. Her second father who she was quite fond of and now her baby sister who died over night. Chanda endures many separations but no matter what she is still always strong and will always keep going. I think that Chanda is the hero of this story because she is a good friend to Esther, she has to give up hanging out with friends to help her mother and because of the separations she has to endure throughout her life.

Right now I'm currently reading Chanda's Secrets by Allan Stratton. The book takes place in Africa and it is about a girl named Chanda who has to go through hard times because people she knows are dying due to  HIV/AIDS. At the beginning of the story Chanda is  in a funeral parlor trying to pick out a casket for her little one and a half year old sister that had died over night. Chanda is the only family member who is at the funeral parlor because her mother is just so devastated she does not want to go, instead of going she just wants to hold her baby girl.Chanda's step father is working but she says that he is actually getting drunk at the bar, so Chanda is left to pick out the casket by herself. "I sign the contract and  go outside. Biking into the morning rush hour, I recite the Alphabet to make my mind go blank."
I find that Chanda is a girl with many problems in her life, her dad and two brothers have died, she lived with a man that tried to rape her and now her baby sister has died. I chose this quote from the book because I think that Chanda is constantly trying through out the book to get her problems out of her head by thinking of something else

The video that I have chosen is a song by My Chemical Romance and it is called Cancer. I believe that this song relates to my main character because she has lost many people in her life and I believe that this song can relate to two illness's- aids and cancer. I think that this song relates to aids because once you have aids you know you'ure going to die. In this song the singer knows that at he is going to die, and he is telling someone what he wants when he dies and that the hardest part about this is leaving them.

Post 3

I have just finished The Blue Helmet By William Bell and the book was not too bad of a book. In the last chapter of the book Lee gives the house, that he has been given to by Cutter, gives it to his Dad. Lee also gave all the money that Cutter gave to Lee to his Dad as well, that way his Dad can quit his second job and he can move out of his apartment in Hamilton. "At the beginning of the summer I had gone to Lakshmi and asked her to transfer the house to my father's name. When all the paper work had been done, I had mailed it to him with a note saying, "Now you have to move to New Toronto."

This part of the book reminded me of a book that I have read in the past that I really enjoyed. The book is called Hamish X and the Cheese Pirates by Sean Cullen. In this book a boy named Hamish X is dropped off at an orphanage that is run by a man named Viggo. This orphanage makes the children make cheese, later on in the book the orphanage is taken over by cheese pirates and they take all the children, cheese and Viggo. The only people that are not captured are Hamish X and his friends, at the end Viggo gets killed by the cheese pirates and the orphanage is taken over by staff employees who the orphans look up to and love. The similarities between the two books is that they both take over a place that helps make someone's life a lot better.

Right now I am reading the novel The Blue Helmet by William Bell. The story so far is that a kid named Lee has got in trouble with the police one to many times, his Dad is tired of his behaviour so he sends Lee to live with his Aunt Reena in Toronto. Lee's Aunt runs a cafe, Lee does the delivery service for the cafe. While he is doing the delivery he comes across very strange characters, he meets a man named Abe Krantz who has many computers that tracks the weather and he listens to the cop radio. The  strangest character that Lee has come across is Bruce Cutter, Cutter has big locked doors and is very paranoid and thinks the government is after him. Lee creates a bond between him and Cutter and one day Lee comes to visit Cutter and he is acting very strange, Lee decides to leave and let Cutter rest. Later on that night Lee gets a call from Abe saying that he should go to Cutters house, when Lee arrives at Cutters house the police are there. Lee demands to speak to the cop who was in charge, Lee and the cop who was in charge talk and he says that Cutter has committed suicide. A couple days later Lee gets a call from Cutter's lawyer saying to come to her office. When Lee arrives at the office Cutter's Lawyer says that Cutter left something for Lee in Cutter's will. It says in Cutter's will that Lee gets Cutter's house and everything that is in it.

Right now what is happening in the book Lee has cleaned out the house and has made changes for  himself. While cleaning out the house Lee finds a room that was painted all black and on the walls there were sayings such as "Mootwa shall inherit the earth". Lee decided to look around the room and see what was there, he came across a file cabinet and opened it up. In the Cabinet was a light blue helmet, a wood handled knife and an old shoe that was covered on one side with blood. On the day that Cutter died he had said that "I was a peacekeeper once" the blue helmet had been worn by Representatives of the UN. Lee came across a diary of Cutters, Cutter had been part of the the UN and in the diary it talks about how Cutter went to Siberia when there was a war going on over there. I have not finished reading the chapter with the diary entries I still have couple pages left. This book so far has been enjoyable to me, the author's writing style is a little bit different from what I have read in the past. It is hard to make a prediction of what is going to happen next because it moves very slowly and focuses on one thing at a time.

Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms.
- Angela Carter

I chose this quote because it really describes me as a reader because what the quote is saying is exactly what i do when I read. What the quote is saying is, when you read a book you are re-creating it in your own way. So when you read and a new character is introduced you imagine what the character looks like from what you have seen in the past or from a familiar face. When you read you bring your history into your book, if something is happening that you have experienced you can relate to what the character is feeling. What I do when  I read I picture the characters off of familiar faces. For Example in the book I'm reading right now i picture two of the characters as famous actors, the aunt that takes care of the main character is Wanda Sykes and a really smart paranoid man is Denis Quaid. I feel that this quote really relates to me because it is explaining what I do when I read a book.
